We had great fun this month collaborating with other artists as part of a larger project called Lighting The Woods. Creating shadow puppets and holding space for people to experiment and explore their creativity is at the heart of what we do. I’m continually amazed by the joy a simple craft activity can spark, and always delighted by the imagination and originality people bring to it.

Lighting the Woods – Grin Low

The weather may have dampened the artwork, but it certainly didn’t dampen the spirits of those who came to see the creations made and shared by the public. Lighting of the Woods, a project conceived by Stone and Water, invited people to step out into the dark evenings and embrace the crisp winter air, (or the heavy rain!)  We were proud to play our part, joining others to help animate the woods through a short, self-guided walk filled with subtle moments of light and discovery.

Three large gargoyle style faces on poles in the dark woods have been uplit and look out giving the photo and eerie feel.

Where We Live Is…Creative

A great time was had by all the families that visited The Assembly Rooms over this half term. We were part of an event called, “Where We Live Is…Creative” and hosted by Buxton Crescent Heritage Trust. There were some brilliant creations, and it was a joy to see how children became immersed in the process and how excited they were when they saw their shadow puppets on the screen.

Young Rec Perfrom”Wolves V Kids”

Our youngest group at Rec did a fantastic job sharing their version of the Grimm tale The Wolf and the Seven Little Kids.

But what made us most proud wasn’t the final performance, it was everything that led up to it. The real achievement was the confidence that was built, the teamwork formed, and the courage it took to step on stage. We are proud of every single one of them.
