It’s been another busy month for us, we’ve been diving into fresh projects, dreaming up future ones, and shaping funding bids to help make them happen. On top of that, REC is back! It feels so good to be back in the room, playing theatre games, sparking imaginations, and watching our young people dive in with their usual mix of energy, and creativity. There’s nothing quite like it to remind us why we do what we do. Here’s a snapshot of where some of that inspiration comes from.
Post Office Of Possibilities
Our little post office was part of The Full Shebang festival in Mansfield at the beginning of this month. We had a great time meeting families and individuals in a busy high street. We shared stories, sparked conversations, evoked curiosity and invited people to play. It’s always humbling to see how our work resonates. At the festival, several visitors paused, then reflected, and for one passerby it was a deeply moving experience. Curious to hear the story? You can read it here.If you think the Post Office Of Possibilities would add something special to your event then please drop me a line.
Epic Opportunity For Young Creatives
We are excited to announce that Rec Senior Company has been selected to take part in The National Theatre Connections Festival 2026. It’s a nationwide youth theatre festival that celebrates our young creatives. We have been lucky enough to be matched with The Lowry in Salford and can’t wait until next year when our young people take to their stage. It’s such an exciting opportunity and a brilliant thing to be part of. Phil and I are heading to London to be part of The Directors Weekend at The National Theatre, where we will meet other practioners, attend workshops, share stories and come back to Buxton with a toolkit brimming to inspire our young people. We have space in our senior group if you know of a young person (aged 14-17) that would like to join. If you think money is a barrier we have bursary places available so just get in touch by emailing [email protected]
Big Ideas, Small Steps!
We’re really excited to share that the Bright Futures project has received Arts Council funding, supporting 8 artists and 8 schools to work side by side. Together, we’ll explore some of the big questions schools are asking in their development plans, and see what happens when creativity is part of the answer.
These partnerships take time to grow, and every artist and school will have their own unique journey. But one thing is clear, the impact can be huge.
We’ve been paired with two brilliant schools here in Buxton. At the Infants, we’ll be exploring “How can working with an artist improve fine motor skills?” And at the Juniors, the big question is “Can we grow our children’s resilience and independence by growing their confidence in oracy?”
Phil and I are leading this project, and we can’t wait to see where the adventure takes us
